Sharing Recipes
Published Nov 11, 2025
Coming soon: Share recipes with friends, family, or the ClipDish community.
Note: Full recipe sharing functionality is a planned feature that's not yet fully available in ClipDish. This documentation describes how it will work when it launches.
What is Recipe Sharing?
Recipe sharing lets you send your favorite recipes to friends, family, or the ClipDish community. Whether it's a family recipe you want to preserve or a web-clipped dish you think someone will love, sharing makes it easy.
Planned sharing options:
- Share via message, email, or AirDrop
- Generate a shareable link
- Share entire collections (e.g., "My Holiday Baking Recipes")
- Contribute recipes to the public Discover feed
- Create collaborative collections with friends or family
Why Share Recipes?
Preserve family recipes: Share Grandma's secret cookie recipe with the whole family so it's never lost.
Help a friend: Found the perfect recipe for your friend's dinner party? Send it their way.
Build the community: Share your best recipes with the ClipDish community so others can discover them in Discover.
Collaborate: Work with friends or family to build shared recipe collections for events or meal planning.
How Recipe Sharing Will Work (Planned)
Sharing a Single Recipe
- Open the recipe you want to share
- Tap the ellipsis menu in the top-right
- Select "Share"
- Choose how to share:
- Message or Email - Send directly to someone
- Copy Link - Copy a shareable URL to paste anywhere
- AirDrop - Send to nearby Apple devices
- Add to Discover - Make the recipe public for the ClipDish community
The recipient gets a link to view the recipe in ClipDish or on the web (if they don't have the app).
Sharing a Collection
- Open the sidebar and select a collection
- Tap the ellipsis button in the toolbar
- Select "Share Collection"
- Choose how to share (same options as above)
The recipient gets access to all recipes in that collection.
Collaborative Collections
Create a collection and invite others to contribute:
- Open a collection
- Tap "Invite Collaborators"
- Send an invite link via message, email, or AirDrop
- Collaborators can add, edit, or remove recipes from the shared collection
Great for:
- Planning a potluck dinner (everyone adds their dish)
- Building a family recipe archive
- Meal planning with a partner or roommate
When Will Sharing Launch?
Full recipe sharing is in development. We don't have a release date yet, but we'll announce it when it's ready.
Want to be notified when sharing launches? Sign up for updates or follow us on Twitter/X or Instagram.
What's Available Now?
While full sharing isn't ready yet, you can currently:
- Share the recipe URL - If you saved a recipe from a website using Safari, you can share the original website link with someone
- Take screenshots - Screenshot the recipe detail view and send it via message or email
- Manually copy text - Copy ingredients and instructions and paste them into a message
These are workarounds until the full sharing feature is available. See Working with Recipes to learn more about viewing and cooking from recipes.

Have Feedback or Ideas?
We'd love to hear what sharing features are most important to you. Should we prioritize collaborative collections? Public sharing to Discover? Something else? Contact us with your thoughts.
Privacy Considerations
When sharing is available, we'll make it clear what's being shared and with whom:
- Private sharing (message, email, AirDrop) will only send the recipe to the people you specify
- Public sharing (Discover) will make the recipe visible to all ClipDish users
- You'll always have control over what you share and can delete shared recipes at any time
For more details, see ClipDish's Privacy Policy.
Happy cooking (and sharing)!
