Getting Started with ClipDish
Published Nov 11, 2025
Set up ClipDish in minutes and start saving recipes from the web or browse thousands of curated recipes in Discover.
Welcome to ClipDish! You're about to turn recipe chaos into an organized collection you'll actually use. Let's get you set up.
Two Ways to Find Recipes
ClipDish gives you two great ways to build your recipe collection:
- Save from the web - Clip recipes from any food blog or website using Safari
- Browse Discover - Explore thousands of recipes saved by the ClipDish community
Both are easy, both are fast, and you'll probably use both. Let's start with setting up the Safari extension since that's what makes ClipDish special.
Setting Up the Safari Extension
This is the magic that lets you save recipes with just a tap while browsing in Safari. No more scrolling through someone's life story to find the actual recipe—ClipDish pulls just the ingredients and instructions you need. Don't skip this—it's what makes ClipDish work.
Here's How:
- Open ClipDish - When you first launch the app, you'll see a welcome screen
- Follow the onboarding - The app walks you through enabling the extension
- Tap "Open Share Sheet" - This opens the iOS share menu
- Scroll down and tap "Edit Actions"
- Find ClipDish in the list and toggle it on
- Tap "Done" in the app
That's it. Now when you're browsing recipes in Safari, you can share them directly to ClipDish.

Testing It Out
Want to make sure it worked? Here's a quick test:
- Open Safari and go to any recipe website (try this chocolate chip cookie recipe if you need one)
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up)
- Look for the ClipDish icon in the share sheet
- Tap it
If the recipe saves, you're all set. If you don't see ClipDish in the share sheet, go back and make sure you enabled it in step 5 above.

Exploring Discover
Don't have a recipe in mind? No problem. ClipDish has thousands of recipes already saved by the community, and they're all waiting for you in the Discover tab.
Browse Discover:
- Open ClipDish
- Tap the Discover tab at the bottom
- Scroll through recipes or use the search bar to find something specific
- Tap any recipe to preview it
- Like what you see? Tap the bookmark icon to save it to your collection

Why Discover is Great
- Skip the life story - Every recipe is already parsed to show just the good stuff
- Instant recipes - No need to hunt around the web
- Already parsed - These recipes are guaranteed to save correctly (no bookmarks here)
- Variety - From weeknight dinners to fancy desserts
- Always fresh - New recipes added regularly
If you're brand new to ClipDish, start here. Browse Discover, save a few recipes that look good, and get a feel for the app. You can always set up Safari clipping later.
What Happens After You Save a Recipe?
Whether you save from Safari or Discover, your recipes land in your Recipes tab. That's your home base—where all your saved recipes live.
From there, you can:
- Organize into Collections - Group recipes by meal type, cuisine, or whatever makes sense to you
- Search - Find recipes by name or ingredient
- Cook - Tap a recipe to see ingredients and instructions in an easy-to-read format
- Edit - Tweak recipes, add notes, or adjust serving sizes

Pro Tip: Start with Discover
If you're feeling overwhelmed, here's our recommendation:
- Open the Discover tab
- Save 5-10 recipes that look interesting
- Browse through them in your Recipes tab
- Get comfortable with the app
- Then set up Safari clipping when you're ready
There's no rush. Discover gives you plenty to work with while you get the hang of things.
