Browser Support
Published Nov 11, 2025
Learn which browsers work with ClipDish and how to save recipes from Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and other non-Safari browsers.
ClipDish works best with Safari, but you can save recipes from other browsers too. Here's what you need to know.
Safari (Recommended)
Safari is the best browser for ClipDish because it supports iOS share extensions. This means you can clip recipes directly from Safari with one tap.
How to save from Safari:
- Browse to a recipe page
- Tap the Share button
- Select ClipDish
- The recipe is saved
Why Safari is best:
- One-tap recipe saving via share sheet
- Native integration with iOS
- Most reliable recipe parsing
- Fastest workflow
Setup: See Getting Started to enable the ClipDish Safari extension.

Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Other Browsers
ClipDish doesn't have native extensions for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or other third-party browsers on iOS. However, you can still save recipes using a workaround.
Method 1: Copy and Paste URL
The easiest way to save from non-Safari browsers:
- Browse to a recipe page in your preferred browser
- Tap the address bar and copy the URL
- Open ClipDish
- Tap the (+) button in the Recipes view
- Paste the URL (future feature - not currently implemented)
- ClipDish fetches and parses the recipe
Note: This feature is planned but not yet available. Use Method 2 below for now.
Method 2: Open in Safari
If ClipDish doesn't support URL pasting yet, use this workaround:
- Browse to a recipe page in your preferred browser
- Copy the URL
- Open Safari
- Paste the URL and navigate to the page
- Use the Safari share extension to save the recipe to ClipDish
This takes a few extra steps, but it works reliably.
Method 3: Share to Safari, Then to ClipDish
Some browsers let you share web pages to Safari:
- Browse to a recipe page
- Tap the browser's Share button
- Select "Open in Safari" or "Share" → "Safari"
- Once the page loads in Safari, use the ClipDish share extension
Browser compatibility:
- Chrome: Share → "Open in Safari"
- Firefox: Share → "Open in Safari"
- Edge: Share → "Open in Safari"

Browser-Specific Notes
Chrome
Chrome is popular but doesn't support iOS share extensions the way Safari does. Use the "Open in Safari" workaround.
Limitation: You can't clip recipes directly from Chrome's share sheet.
Firefox
Firefox has similar limitations to Chrome. Use the "Open in Safari" method.
Limitation: No direct ClipDish integration.
Edge
Microsoft Edge on iOS behaves like Chrome and Firefox. Use the Safari workaround.
Limitation: No native ClipDish extension.
DuckDuckGo
DuckDuckGo's iOS browser also doesn't support ClipDish extensions. Use the Safari method.
Brave
Brave has the same limitations as other Chromium-based browsers. Use Safari for clipping.
Why Doesn't ClipDish Support Other Browsers?
iOS share extensions only work with Safari. Third-party browsers like Chrome and Firefox use their own extension systems, which aren't compatible with iOS share sheets.
To support other browsers, we'd need to:
- Build separate extensions for each browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, etc.)
- Maintain those extensions separately
- Deal with each browser's approval and update process
As a small indie team, we're focusing on the best experience (Safari) rather than spreading ourselves thin across multiple browsers.
Will ClipDish Support Other Browsers in the Future?
It's possible, but not a priority right now. If enough users request it, we'll reconsider.
What we're more likely to build:
- URL pasting within ClipDish (so you can paste a link from any browser)
- A web-based recipe clipper that works in any browser

Using Discover Instead
If you're frustrated by browser limitations, remember that ClipDish has Discover—a searchable database of thousands of recipes already clipped by the community.
Instead of clipping from Chrome:
- Open ClipDish
- Go to the Discover tab
- Search for the recipe you want
- Save it to your library
Chances are, if a recipe is popular, someone has already saved it to Discover.
See Understanding Discover for more details.
Common Questions
Q: Can I set ClipDish as my default browser on iOS? A: No. ClipDish isn't a browser—it's a recipe app. You'll still use Safari (or your preferred browser) to browse the web.
Q: Why can't I use ClipDish's share extension in Chrome? A: iOS share extensions only work in Safari. Chrome uses a different system that ClipDish doesn't support.
Q: Is there a workaround for clipping from Chrome without opening Safari? A: Not yet. Copy the URL and open it in Safari, or wait for URL pasting support in ClipDish.
Q: Can I use ClipDish on my Mac? A: Not yet. ClipDish is currently iPhone and iPad only. A Mac version is on our roadmap.
Q: Does ClipDish work with private/incognito browsing? A: Yes, as long as you're using Safari. Private browsing doesn't affect the share extension.
Q: Can I use ClipDish with Safari on macOS? A: No. ClipDish is iOS/iPadOS only. We're exploring a Mac version for the future.
Tips for Non-Safari Users
Set Safari as your recipe browser Even if you prefer Chrome or Firefox for general browsing, consider using Safari specifically for recipe browsing. This gives you the best ClipDish experience.
Bookmark recipe sites in Safari Create Safari bookmarks for your favorite food blogs so you can quickly access them when you want to save recipes.
Use Discover first Before hunting for a recipe online, check Discover. You might find what you're looking for without needing to browse at all.
Request URL pasting If you're a Chrome/Firefox user who wants better support, contact us and let us know. User feedback drives our roadmap.
